Mary Murtagh
New Hope Community Centre Manager
I've been the Associate Vicar here at New Hope Community Church since August 2013.  I'm passionate about many things: movies, skiing and starbucks coffee!  But most of all I'm passionate about Jesus, knowing him better each day so I can talk to others about him more meaningfully.  I also believe that God wants us to live our lives to the full (John 10:10) and so I aim to lead the church in a way which is fun and life enriching, trusting that he is with us in whatever we face, and that we can enjoy life more when we live it together in community. As the Centre Manager I am responsible for the general upkeep of the building as well as managing the bookings.  This means I spend a lot of time sorting out broken bits of equipment and making sure the facilities are up to scratch.  I enjoy the challenge of making the community centre the best that it can be, I believe that the building itself can be a blessing as well as the work we do in it.

Abi Ord
Youth and Children’s Outreach Worker
I started working here at New Hope in 2006 as the Community Development Worker and I really enjoy my job. My focus has been on developing relationships with the people who live and work in the area around our building, drinking coffee and deepening people's awareness of the church being a source of comfort and strength. My job involves lots of different areas as we seek to be involved in the local community helping to meet the needs of people in this area and providing a place for people to come together and get to know their neighbours. I spend time working with groups like the Toddler group, Kidzone and the Brownies as well as establishing links with other community groups and organising events like our annual Community Fun Day. We know that God cares about every aspect of people's lives and we want to show that care.

My husband, Steve and I are both local born. I was raised in Reading and Steve was brought up in Tadley. I come from a Christian family but would say I first met God around 15 and have continued my journey with him since. After studying Theology at Winchester Uni I came home to care for my Mum and work in a local Pharmacy. I have spent the last 6 years working with children and families associated with a Methodist Church in Reading. Over the last 2 1/2 years I have been blessed to also serve the youth of Purley. Working with young people is always interesting and I love the way they openly challenge and affirm my faith everyday.

The Youth and Children’s Outreach Worker  oversees the Children's and Youth programmes including JAM on Sundays, Re:Mix Youth Club on alternate Friday evenings, and Kidzone on Thursday afternoons.

Carole Jarvis
New Hope Community Church Administrator

I've worked at New Hope in a voluntary capacity since 2011 helping the Centre Administrator with the financial admin associated with centre room bookings. In March 2014 I joined the New Hope staff team to continue the bookings admin, and also to be the Church Administrator. This involves me in preparing publicity materials, updating the website, sending out e-bulletins, as well as day-to-day general admin. As a resident of the local community and member of New Hope Community Church my prayer is that many people in our community would come to know and enjoy a relationship with our amazing God for themselves. On a personal note, I enjoy nature photography, painting, cryptic crosswords and spending time with my family.

There are many others who serve the church and community centre with their time, skills and willingness to serve. Some clean, some do accounts, some do pastoral visiting, all are warmly appreciated and valued because we couldn't be the church without each and every person making their own unique contribution.
